The Mortgage Companies Take and Rob

That is how Ms. Scott describes her experience with foreclosure. Prior to the pandemic, Ms. Scott made several large payments to her mortgage, but the servicer’s failure to apply funds as received created a delinquency. LaFHAC’s Housing Counseling Department. led by Giazzlyn Duncan, was able to assist Ms. Scott with mortgage support. After years of struggling to make her payments, Ms. Scott was able to avoid foreclosure .

Because of your generous support of the Louisiana Fair Housing Action Center, LaFHAC was available as a resource for Ms. Scott and her family in 2022. Although Ms. Scott was able to retain home ownership, there are thousands more in danger of losing their homes. In 2022, Louisiana’s foreclosure rate is one in every 6,911 households. Homeownership is critical to wealth-building is and a key reason for the vast difference in the net worth of Black and white families.  This #GivingTuesday, please be a Housing Justice Hero and invest in LaFHAC’s mission.

We thank you for your support and your partnership to ensure that every neighborhood is well-resourced.
