Know Your Housing Rights

The federal Fair Housing Act protects you from discrimination based on:

  • Race
  • Color
  • Religion
  • Sex, which can include sexual orientation or gender identity
  • National Origin
  • Disability
  • Familial Status (having children or being pregnant)

In Orleans Parish there are additional protections from discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identification, marital status, age and creed.

The Fair Housing Act also protects you against discrimination in mortgage lending and mortgage modification scams. Learn more about our Report Foul Play in Lending Campaign here and report suspicious practices for investigation and enforcement.
