On December 1st, the New Orleans City Council showed their commitment to housing justice with a massive investment of $22M for housing in the 2024 New Orleans City Budget. This funding will make sure the Healthy Homes Program is fully funded to launch at the beginning of next year and that those facing eviction will have representation in eviction court through the Right to Counsel Program. In addition, council allocated $17M to the newly created trust, which can be used to build affordable housing and explore new paths to homeownership.
LaFHAC worked proudly alongside the Big Easy Budget Coalition advocating for City Council to address the root causes of violence through investments in affordable housing, community equity, community violence intervention and youth services and programs. This tremendous win would not be possible without your support and the dedicated work of this coalition!
Stay tuned here for updates on Healthy Homes implementation set to begin January 1st.
