On Wednesday, a federal judge upheld almost all aspects of New Orleans’ short-term rental laws that placed limits on vacation rentals in residential areas of the city. The city sustained a seven-month-long unregulated market without any residential short-term rental enforcement, and last month, there were 5,710 listings on Airbnb and other sites, compared to only 1,260 active permits. The fast and strict enforcement of existing laws will be key to truly protect our neighborhoods from becoming hollowed out tourist accommodations. Read more about the recent decision here.
