Healthy Homes Advances, Final Vote Likely October 20th

Over 100 people packed City Council Chambers on September 29th and waited hours to speak in support of the Healthy Homes Ordinance. See TV coverage of the hearing from WGNO and WWL. Councilmembers heard dozens of horror stories from long-time renters, as well as from representatives of public health, environmental justice, music and culture, LGBTQ, and reproductive justice groups, all in support of Healthy Homes. With the additional support from the hundreds of calls and emails you’ve made over the past two weeks, Councilmembers JP Morrell, Lesli Harris, and Freddie King, unanimously voted to advance the ordinance to the full City Council for a final vote. We expect that final vote to be at the October 20th City Council meeting.

That still leaves four Councilmembers we haven’t heard from yet though. Help our coalition keep the pressure on for the next three weeks so we can modernize our code enforcement system and ensure safe and healthy homes for all New Orleanians.
