A Long Overdue Win for Affordable Housing in New Orleans

This month, City Council voted to approve an extension that will allow the proposed Mazant Royal site to break ground this year and bring 82 affordable units to the well resourced and vibrant Bywater neighborhood.

After the St. Thomas public housing site was demolished in 2007, advocates and residents, along with LaFHAC, have spent the last two decades fighting for the city to make good on its requirement to build more affordable housing. This recent approval by City Council is a long overdue win for New Orleanians who know that affordable housing belongs in every neighborhood, especially those with access to jobs, schools, medical care, transportation and green spaces.

Long fought victories like this are won due to your tireless advocacy and support. Keep an eye out for the Mazant Royal groundbreaking ceremony – coming this year!
